Yosemite Valley is probably the most picturesque National Park in the United States. The very best time to capture this unique landscape is mid-February when the gorgeous landscape is bathed in a magical warm light and often accentuated with light snow. And…this is the only time of year you can capture Nature’s FIRE FALL at Horsetail Falls.
Join APT for a bucket-list photography adventure. We will take you to the most scenic locations at just the right times to capture them when they are the most beautiful. We will also take you to some less known areas, but are just as beautiful. Of course we will share tips and insights on how to perfectly capture this magnificent landscape.
APT will also ensure you are at a prime location, at just the right time, to capture the phenomenon of the Nature’s FIRE FALL. During these few days in February, when the conditions are just right, the warm evening light hits the granite face of El Capitan in back of Horsetails Falls at just the right angle to make the waterfall glow. It is a natural show like no other.
The price for this adventure is $1795.00. This includes LODGING (double occupancy) , travel to and from the San Francisco airport (SFO) ,and all travel in and around the park. Airfare and meals are NOT INCLUDED. A single occupancy option is available for an additional fee of $250.00.
The light moves fast, so you will receive photo tips sheets in advance to ensure you’re ready to capture these beautiful scenes when the light is hitting just right. After the workshop, you’ll receive video tutorials demonstrating how we post-process the images we captured.
You should plan on arriving in San Francisco by 11:00 am on February 19th. You may book return flights after 11:00 am on February 23, 2020.
CANCELLATION POLICY: This workshop is a Class C workshop. Our cancellation policy can be viewed here. The deposit is non-refundable. When final payments are made, they are also not refundable due to the outlay of expenses prior to the workshop. In the event the workshop is cancelled by American Photo Treks, full refunds will be given. We strongly advise trip insurance to protect yourself in the event that unavoidable circumstances prevent you from making the trip. For travel insurance, visit RoamRight. RSVP INSTRUCTIONS: Due to our permit restrictions, we are limited to 11 participants on this exciting workshop. Once you RSVP, additional information will be sent to you.
A deposit of $300.00 is required to reserve your space. The remainder of the workshop fee can be made in two installments of $750.00 due by December 15, 2019, and $745.00 due by January 18, 2020. RSVPs after January 1, 2020 require payment in full. A single occupancy option is available for $250.00. An early bird discount of $200.00 is available until January 5, 2020. We’ll visit the iconic Yosemite National Park in mid-February 2018. We’ll photograph many of the iconic Yosemite Valley features including:
- Yosemite Valley from the Tunnel View
- Bridalveil Falls
- Cook’s Meadow
- Gates of the Valley
- Yosemite Falls
- Half Dome
- Weather permitting, we’ll also capture Nature’s Fire Fall at Horsetail Falls which occurs at sunset.
- Our itinerary will be flexible to ensure we get you to the best locations given the current conditions.
We’ll travel back to San Francisco for our final night where we will photograph the Golden Gate Bridge from Baker Beach at sunset.
LODGING: All lodging is included in the price. We will be staying at the Yosemite Cedar Lodge in El Portal, CA. It is about a 15 minute drive from the hotel to the park entrance. We will return to San Francisco on the afternoon of February 22, 2019. We will be staying at hotel near the Golden Gate Bridge.
TRAVEL: You should plan on arriving at the San Francisco airport (SFO) by 11:00 am on Saturday, February 19, 2020. We will meetup, and drive to Yosemite Valley.
We are renting large vehicles to comfortably transport everyone from the airport to Yosemite Valley. Please limit your luggage to one suitcase, your camera bag, and a small personal item such as purse, small backpack, etc.
We’ll be departing for home the afternoon on Sunday, February 23, 2020. Flight reservations may be made for 11:00 am or later.
FOOD: We suggest that you bring food for snacks during the day. After sunrise, we’ll visit Yosemite Village for a late morning brunch. For dinner, we’ll visit a restaurant near the hotel.
RECOMMENDED CAMERA EQUIPMENT:
- DSLR camera will be required for this workshop
- Daypack-style camera bag
- Sturdy, but light tripod
- Remote shutter release
- Extra camera batteries (these tend to discharge faster at higher/colder climates)
- Extra storage cards (there will be lots to shoot, so bring plenty!)
- Wide-angle through telephoto lenses.
- Neutral Density filters (highly recommended)
CLOTHING & GEAR: Weather in Yosemite Valley this time of year can range from mild to cold. There may be fog, rain, or even snow. Snow overnight can make the valley extremely beautiful. You will need to be prepared for a variety of conditions. We recommend planning to dress in layers and be prepared for rain.
- Layered clothing.
- A hat and sunglasses.
- Sun Block.
- A towel or two to dry off cameras and lenses.
- Waterproof boots.
- Any medications you need including prescriptions. This includes antacids, anti-diarrhea, pain relievers (Tylenol, Aleve, ibuprofen, aspirin, etc.).
